How you can help

The Trust relies on the kind generosity of our donors. Philanthropic giving has been shown to increase happiness in people, and we ask you to consider a donation to further the work of this Trust for the benefit of all New Zealanders.

Donate now

Donations will help us with this critically important work. Everybody benefits from a healthy marine environment and the healthy activity of fishing for recreation and food. Let us not forget that those least able to purchase fish at retail prices are most adversely affected when fisheries are depleted, and trips to the beach or wharf are unproductive.

‘more fish in the water’ is a legacy we can create with your kind gift, a legacy that future generations will be proud of.

Your gift will be used wisely

A number of programmes are underway to identify and prioritise the work required to maintain and enhance sustainable access, use and management of New Zealand’s fisheries and marine environment, for the benefit of the public.

There are many initiatives that require our financial support now.

  • Enabling professional fisheries scientists, advisers and experts to participate in joint stakeholder processes;
  • Raising awareness of the public’s fishing interests and the importance of “more fish in the water”;
  • Dialogue and consultation with all stakeholders to ensure robust and inclusive process, providing positive outcomes for our fisheries;
  • Continued support of innovations and fresh ideas that help improve methods, processes and fish stocks;
  • Supporting meaningful and realistic proposals that result in improvements to our resources “more fish in the water”.

Funding professionals

The public’s interest in abundant fisheries extends from off shore migratory species such as the mighty marlin to inshore food species such as shellfish. A lack of resources has prevented meaningful input into management processes for many of these species.

The Trust will fund professionals to assist participation in management of fisheries that have social, ecological or cultural significance.

With a wealth of experience, many advisers have amassed a vast array of skills and knowledge. Foremost is the realisation that a holistic approach is required if the public is to enjoy maximum benefit from abundant fisheries and a healthy marine environment.
