The Nancy Glen II is a commercial trawler operating out of
Napier. Late in 2007, her skipper / owner Rick Burch came
into contact with the Trust. Rick has been developing trawl
innovations that are recognised internationally as world-
leading. Dramatic reductions in juvenile mortality, bycatch, sea
floor damage and fuel consumption hold the promise of an exciting future. With the result being “more fish in the water”, and improved operating efficiencies, the Trustees decided to grant
monies for further tests and refinements. More about trawling innovations »
The “Guardians of the Sea Charitable Trust” has made two grants this year to an unlikely recipient, a trawler owner operator.
Skipper Rick Burch of Napier bought his vessel the Nancy Glen II from Scotland in 1995. She is a 40 footer with a 15 tonne hold, designed and built in Cornwall. He targets Tarakihi, Gurnard and Flatfish.
